Already suffering from an addiction to pills, both uppers and downers, her illicit affair with a married Richard Burton drew a lot of unwanted negative attention. After he ended the relationship, it was too much for actress Taylor, and she tried to end it all with an overdose of alcohol and prescription sleep medication. Oddly enough, she and Burton married several years later.
