Carey has been quite open regarding his struggles with depression, which date back to when he was just 18. In his twenties, he attempted suicide by overdosing on prescription pills. Now, as an older and wiser star in his fifties, Carey credits belief in himself as well as setting goals to achieve as integral parts of helping him deal with depression.
