#2 Bloodshot

Back in 2015, with the intention of creating a new cinematic universe, Sony acquired the rights to Valiant Comics properties Bloodshot and Harbinger. Since then, the latter title has passed to Paramount, but regardless of its Bloodshot movie, Sony has been moving ahead.

The shooting began in August 2018, with Vin Diesel (who stars as a marine Ray Garrison, killed in action and reborn as an indestructible super soldier) posting an African snapshot behind the scenes set to mark this moment. The actor thanked fans of Bloodshot for believing in him and Dave Wilson, the first director.

Things went quiet on the Bloodshot front after that. Vin Diesel continued to drop the odd sneak peek, but we didn’t get our first real look at the movie until the first trailer dropped in October 2019, some four and a half years after Bloodshot was announced. Was it worth the wait? If you like the films RoboCop and Memento, then the answer is probably yes — Bloodshot looks like an insane mashup of the two.

The first trailer favored style over substance, although a key plot element was given away. Spoiler alert— there is a hidden agenda for scientists who infuse Garrison with nanotechnology and return it to existence. All the former Marine can recall is the murder of his wife and the brazen tech bros of the corrupt RST business (led by Guy Pearce, reportedly a late replacement for Michael Sheen) manipulate his thirst for revenge, setting Bloodshot loose on their own targets.
